Commitment

Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 200 hours of Crisis Intervention work, consisting of a minimum of three four-hour shifts and one eight-hour overnight shift per month. Volunteers can be excepted from working overnight shifts for valid medical reasons.

Crisis Line Shift Schedule

The People In Need Crisis Line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We receive approximately 6,800 calls per year. Our lines are staffed by an average of 35 volunteer crisis line workers and 3 staff.

The Crisis Line operates on a daily schedule of basic shifts:

  • 8:00 am to 12:00 noon
  • 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm
  • 4:00 to 8:00 pm
  • 8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight 
  • 12:00 midnight to 8:00 am

Each volunteer commits to working a minimum of 3 four-hour shifts and 1 eight-hour overnight shift per month, scheduled at her/his convenience.
